James Evans Sr., 90, of Canonsburg, died at 1:35 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2001, in Washington Hospital.
He was born January 22, 1910, in Greenville, S.C.
Mr. Evans was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Canonsburg and United Mine Workers of America.
He was a coal miner for 45 years and last worked in Muse Mine for Consolidated Coal Co. After his retirement, he was a custodian for Canon-McMillan School District.
Mr. Evans was married to Thelma Pendelton, who died September 13, 1977.
Surviving are a son, James Evans Jr. of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, LaVelle, Victor and Tosha Evans; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Private visitation and services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 6, in Salandra Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lance B. Whitlock of Mt. Olive Baptist Church officiating. Private interment was in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. Woodruff Family Services LLP.
