William Bailey

Owner of Canonsburg insurance company

William L. Bailey, 87, of Upper St. Clair died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Tandem Village in North Strabane Township.

He was born February 14, 1914, in Crafton, a son of Orville Troy and Elizabeth Jane Brown Bailey.

Mr. Bailey was an Army veteran of World War II, having served with Gen. George Patton's 445th Heavy Artillery Unit and as a lieutenant colonel with the 313th Army Reserve.

The owner of W.C. Black Agency/Bill Bailey Insurance on Pike Street in Canonsburg, he worked in insurance and real estate for more than 50 years.

Mr. Bailey was an active member of the community, serving as president of Canonsburg Chamber of Commerce, which once named him Man of the Year. He was a member of Retired Officers Association, Ancient Scottish Rite, Masonic Veterans of Western Pennsylvania and other organizations.

Mr. Bailey also was a founding member of Christ Episcopal Church in the North Hills.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Baumgarten Bailey; a son, William B. Bailey, and a daughter, Carol Bailey Ambrose, both of Upper St. Clair; five grandchildren, Allison B. and David B. Ambrose, Braden Ambrose-Noto and Troy W. and Tara E. Bailey; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased is a sister, Dorothy B. Orner.
