Harry W. "Rocky" Bails, 63, of Canonsburg, died Friday, July 6, 2001, in Washington Hospital.

He was born May 22, 1938, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Boyd Albert and Arretta Kennel Bails.

Mr. Bails was a lifelong Canonsburg resident and a member of Chartiers Hill United Presbyterian Church, Houston Independent Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 861 of Canonsburg, Chartiers Hill Dartball team and Greater Canonsburg Senior Citizens.

He was a 1957 graduate of East Washington High School.

Mr. Bails served with the U.S. Army for nine years. In order to play football for the Marine team in Hawaii, he was made an honorary Marine while serving with the U.S. Army.

He played semi-professional football for the Washington Generals and coached the Mighty Mac football team for nine years. He also coached Little League baseball.

Prior to its closing, Mr. Bails was employed by Cooper Industries.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, card playing and gardening.

On August 11, 1960, he married Barbara Patti Powers, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Michael Jay Bails; a brother, James Neal Bails; and a sister, Rita E. Smiddle, all of Canonsburg; a grandson, Darrell W. Bails; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are four brothers, William and Donald Carter, Frank Bails and the Rev. Charles Bails; and a sister, Betty Lee Bails.
