Jane Minor Adams

Nurse and volunteer was native of Waynesburg

Jane Minor Adams, 81, of Morgantown, W.Va., died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in her home after a lengthy illness.

She was born January 12, 1920, in Waynesburg.

Mrs. Adams graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1938 and from Washington Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1941.

In 1942, she married John D. Adams, DDS, and worked as a nurse in city hospitals during World War II along the East and West coasts while her husband was a naval officer in the Pacific fleet.

After the war, she worked as a nurse in St. Louis University Hospital in Missouri.

In 1958, she moved to Morgantown, with her family because her husband joined the faculty at West Virginia University Dental School.

Mrs. Adams was a member of Monongalia County Dental Auxiliary and American Red Cross.

She volunteered her services at Monongalia General Hospital and West Virginia University Medical Center. She also worked as a volunteer with the American Red Cross Blood Bank.

In 1968, Mrs. Adams returned to nursing in Vincent Pallotte Hospital in Morgantown for a few years.

She was a 43-year member of First Baptist Church of Morgantown. She volunteered as a PTA president, Cub Scout and Girl Scout Brownie troop leader.

Her hobbies included gourmet cooking, entertaining family and friends, playing bridge, growing flowers, especially roses, and collecting and restoring antiques. Her favorite pasttime was fishing for bass in Canada.

Surviving are her son, John Adams of Mt. Lebanon; a daughter, Catherine A. Hamilton of Morgantown; five grandchildren, David, Caitlin and Ann Adams and Karen and Brian Hamilton; and sister, Eleanor Minor Carnahan of New Castle.

Deceased are her husband of 55 years, John D. Adams; an infant daughter, Susan Jane Adams; and a brother, William C. Minor.
