Rose V. Churray

Life member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church

Rose V. Churray, 95, of Canonsburg, died at 7:35 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2001, in Tandem Village, North Strabane Township.

She was born April 9, 1906, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Carman and Pauline Novak Fartro.

Mrs. Churray was a life member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg, where she served as a lecturer; and a charter member of Catholic Daughters Court Canonsburg 1211, where she served as grand regent and district deputy. She also was a Democratic committeewoman and judge of elections in Canonsburg's 2nd Ward.

She served in civil defense during World War II.

Mrs. Churray was a homemaker.

She was supervisor of Continental Can Co. in Canonsburg and a driver for Intermediate Unit 1 in Washington County.

Mrs. Churray was given a chairman's special award by Washington County Democratic Committee in October 1996 and honored in May 2000 for her community service by the Italian-American Society of Washington County.

She was a member of ladies auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and Slovenian Zarja Lodge.

On September 17, 1928, she married Steve Churray, who died April 17, 1975.

Surviving are four daughters, Dolly Setto, Mary Ann Scarci and Carolyn Graff, all of Canonsburg, and Rose T. Churray of Virginia Beach, Va.; four sisters, Mary Kolarosky of Canonsburg, Ann Niemiec of Mt. Lebanon, Lucy Cannon of Canonsburg and Betty Fartro of Mt. Lebanon; two brothers, John Fartro of Canonsburg and Tom Fartro of Houston; 18 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are four brothers, Rocco, Joseph, Anthony and Benjamin Fartro; and three sisters, Pauline Churchel, Teresa and Nancy Fartro.
