Retired metallurgist for Jessop Steel

Lawrence William Cooper, 84, of Sycamore R.D.1, died Monday, June 18, 2001, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

He was born January 31, 1917, in West Union, a son of David Arthur and Arta Loughman Cooper.

Mr. Cooper had been employed by Jessop Steel for 42 years as a metallurgist, retiring in 1972 after which he returned to work and retired in 1979.

He was a member of West Union Presbyterian Church, Sunset Lodge No. 623 F&AM, Valley of Pittsburgh Consistory, Syria Temple and National Rifle Association.

Mr. Cooper was a musician and made violins.

He was a graduate of Trinity High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Cooper enjoyed gardening and roses.

On June 10, 1949, he married Marcella P. Jones, who survives.

Mr. Cooper was the last of his immediate family.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two sons, Lawrence David and Timmy Cooper; and two brothers, Arthur B. and Roy E. Cooper.
