Carl Lawrence II

39-year member of Canonsburg VFD

Carl (Tom) Lawrence II, 68, of Canonsburg, died at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2001, in Washington Hospital.

He was born December 15, 1932, in Hopedale, Ohio, a son of Carl T. and Winnie Danley Lawrence.

Mr. Lawrence was a member of Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an elder.

He was a 1951 graduate of Trinity High School.

During the Korean War, Mr. Lawrence served in the U.S. Navy.

He was a fire protection and security officer at Cooper Industries in Canonsburg.

For the past 39 years, Mr. Lawrence had been a member of Canonsburg Volunteer Fire Department, where he held the offices of president and first lieutenant. He also was a member of Washington County Firemens Association.

Mr. Lawrence was an avid hunter, fisherman and bowler.

On April 30, 1955, he married Kathryn (Kay) Milligan, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Cynthia L. Young of Cartwright, Okla.; two sons, Carl (Tom) Lawrence III of Canonsburg and Dr. David W. Lawrence of Morgantown, W.Va.; a sister, Rosetta Kaseber of Martins Ferry, Ohio; a brother, Layton Lawrence of Iron Station, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Sandra Scott, William and Michael Young and Ryan, Rachel, Jacob and Morgan Lawrence; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, Robert and James Lawrence; and a sister, Eleanor Himes.
